Event Valencia I Functional Fiber Based Material & Packaging 2025 -

Lamberti's Holistic Approach to Sustainable Packaging

Functional Fiber Based Material & Packaging 2025 I October 1–2, Valencia

How can tomato peel become the core of an innovative solution for sustainable packaging?

Lamberti showcased the answer on October 1–2, 2025, at Functional Fiber Based Material & Packaging 2025 in Valencia, the leading European event focused on fiber-based functional materials and sustainable packaging innovation.

The company presented a holistic approach to food-contact paper packaging – combining its expertise in natural and synthetic polymers, eco-design, barrier coating technologies, and LCA/PCF assessments. The goal: to meet the environmental and performance challenges of replacing plastic with fiber-based materials.

When paper is the solution, it must never become plastic again

Among the most innovative solutions was the Esacote® BIO BC range, particularly Esacote® BIO BC 100 – a patented waterborne coating derived from cutin extracted from tomato skins, a by-product of the global food processing industry.

This upcycled biopolymer enables high-performance, plastic-free barrier coatings that are biodegradable, recyclable, and compliant with food-contact regulations.

When paper is the solution, it must never become plastic again,” was Lamberti’s message to the packaging world.

With this nature-inspired innovation, Lamberti reinforces its role as a sustainable coating maker, supporting its clients in the transition toward a circular packaging economy.
